MRI of a patient with painful heavy cycles 👉The adenomyosis caused a 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 portion of her symptoms but was 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 by both the prior ultrasound and the MRI report.

MRI of a patient with painful and heavy cycles 👉The adenomyosis caused a 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 portion of her symptoms but was 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 by both the prior ultrasound and the MRI report.

Prostate artery embolization or PAE is a challenging but impactful procedure in Interventional Radiology for enlarged prostate symptoms and/or hematuria, blood in urine.
⭐️ 𝗪𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐏𝐀𝐄? PAE is the most challenging embolization as these arteries can be small with varying anatomy. Above demonstrates difficult bilateral origins from the obturator artery. There is also communication to the penis on the right.
💡PAE is a relatively new non-surgical treatment option for an enlarged prostate or BPH. 𝗪𝐡𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞? Anyone that has a prostate!
Microparticles are placed into the prostate artery blocking the blood flow to the prostate gland causing it to shrink in size and improve symptoms.
💡In 2018 the UK-NIH concluded that PAE is safe and effective to provide to patients with BPH and is now covered by their universal healthcare. “The safety profile and quicker return to normal activities may be seen as highly beneficial by patients considering PAE as an alternative treatment to TURP … place of PAE in the care pathway is between that of drugs and surgery.”
💡The American Urology Association considers PAE as experimental. Regardless, there are multiple studies showing it’s efficacy and safety, the treatment is FDA approved and currently covered by some insurance companies.

The sacrum is an important bone in the back of the pelvis between the hip bones. A sacral fracture can be debilitating and patients have a hard time even sitting.

MRI of a patient with painful heavy cycles 👉The adenomyosis caused a 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 portion of her symptoms but was 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 by both the prior ultrasound and the MRI report.

This patient had a nodule in the middle of the neck, lying on top of the breathing tube, called the trachea. RFA on this type of nodule is high risk due to the potential in damaging the trachea. The heat can melt the structure leaving a hole, requiring a breathing tube and corrective surgeries.

MRI of a patient with painful heavy cycles 👉The adenomyosis caused a 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 portion of her symptoms but was 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 by both the prior ultrasound and the MRI report.

MRI of a patient with painful heavy cycles 👉The adenomyosis caused a 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 portion of her symptoms but was 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 by both the prior ultrasound and the MRI report.

MRI of a patient with painful heavy cycles 👉The adenomyosis caused a 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 portion of her symptoms but was 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 by both the prior ultrasound and the MRI report.

This patient had a nodule in the middle of the neck, lying on top of the breathing tube, called the trachea. RFA on this type of nodule is high risk due to the potential in damaging the trachea. The heat can melt the structure leaving a hole, requiring a breathing tube and corrective surgeries.
