Thyroid Overview

Radioactive iodine therapy uses a radioactive form of iodine (I-131) that is taken up and processed by the thyroid causing permanent destruction to normal and abnormal thyroid tissue by emitting radiation.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is available for patients with parathyroid adenomas. RFA is a viable alternative for patients with symptomatic hypercalcemia who are not eligible for surgery or for people who prefer a non-surgical approach.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) can be used for patients with overactive or toxic thyroid nodules. This is a safe and effective alternative to radiation and surgery for treating autonomously functioning nodules.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) can be used for patients with large benign thyroid nodules that cause symptoms or have become a cosmetic issue.

Thyroid surgery is an option for many indications and is performed under general anesthesia. The thyroid gland is removed using an incision on the front of the neck, approximately 6 to 8 cm.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has proven to be a good alternative for patients with papillary carcinoma or recurrent cancer that either do not want surgery or are have a high surgical risk.
